If you're a long time user of Silhouette Studio that decided to install Silhouette Studio V5 the Send panel may throw you.
While most of the changes in Silhouette Studio V5 are cosmetic, the Send panel got an overhaul that I would argue it didn't need. Read on to learn more about what you need to know about the updated V5 Send panel.
Why I Don't Use Guide Mode
Silhouette Studio now has a fifth option in the Send panel called "Guide". This guided send option joins Standard, Cut by Line, Cut By Fill, and Cut by Layer.
Guide is the default and while it's supposed to be helpful by guiding you through the Send workflow. I found it more frustrating than anything else.
In Guide mode you have to scan to find a connected device. The problem is...well just watch. (I intentionally left the video in real time, without any cuts, and with my "real" commentary during this 2 minute ordeal)
When I went to Standard mode, my CAMEO 5 was connected without me doing anything and it never disconnected.
Actions: Cut, Not Cut, Cut Edge Have Moved
The second thing to be aware of is that the Actions have moved and have been relabeled. Instead of Tool 1 and Tool 2 actions: Cut, No Cut, Cut Edge each displaying under their relative tool like in the Send panel of V4 and prior versions. They've been moved.
Now regardless of which tool carriage you're using, the actions for both display under the preview area of the Send mode.
- What was previously "Cut" is now "Use All Selected Lines" - This turns ON cut lines
- What was previously "No Cut" is now "Ignore Selected Lines" - This turns OFF cut lines
- What was previously "Cut Edge" is now "Use Outline of Selected Lines" - This turns off all cut lines except the outer edge
Why does this remind me of the iPhone screen I get when I'm on the phone and another call comes in? I basically freeze not knowing what button to push because I start overthinking.
I honestly don't understand this change. Having too many options and too many words is not beginner friendly, in fact it opens up increased opportunity for an incorrect selection.
I preferred when the Tool 2 settings were hidden when Tool 2 was not being used and vice versa. Now instead of 3 options you have five..and need to be really careful when selecting them.
Also, and maybe I'm being pick here, but it would make more sense (to me at least) to have the labels in the same position as the tools. So both Red Tool 1 Left Tool carriage tool settings on the left rather than across the top.
Regardless - this is definitely something I think will require extra attention as you get used to using Silhouette Studio V5.
