If you need to move Silhouette Studio to a new computer there are some important steps you'll need to take before you actually install the Silhouette software on your new computer.
As long as you follow these steps you should have no problem as you prepare to move your Silhouette software, Silhouette library, and custom cut settings to a new computer.
I've put together a free checklist to help you move Silhouette Studio to a new computer from preparing the files on your old computer to getting your library and machine connected on your new computer. There's a PC and a MAC version.
Enter your email to download it and then you can print it out and follow the steps below.
Export Your Silhouette Library
On your old computer you'll want to first make sure you export your Silhouette Studio library so you can move it to the new computer.
To export your library, open Silhouette Studio and click the library button at the top. Select your name so the dropdown opens up and then click "Export Library".
This file will save to your computer in a file format ONLY Silhouette Studio will be able to open.
This file will include your custom patterns, but it will not include fonts. The fonts that show in Silhouette Studio are fonts that are installed on your computer - they are NOT directly installed in Silhouette Studio.
Export User Created Files in Your Library
As a backup, I would also suggest exporting your User-Created Files. To do this go to File > Export > Export User-Created Files.
This file will export onto your computer with a file folder system exactly matching what's in Silhouette Studio.
Export Your Custom Material Settings
So you don't have to re-create your custom material settings you can also move them to a new computer.
Go to the Send panel and click on any material. Click the "More" button to open up the advanced custom material settings.
Select all of the materials in the list > right click > Export Selected Items.
This will export as a CSV spreadsheet.
Take Note of Your Software Version
In the main menu at the very top, click "Silhouette Studio" > About Silhouette Studio and note the exact version of Silhouette Studio you are currently using.
I would suggest you take the library file, the user created file, and the custom materials spreadsheet and move them to either dropbox or G Drive. This will allow you easy access to them from the new computer as well.
At this point you are ready to put Silhouette Studio on a new computer. I have a step by step guide for how to do this on Silhouette U that you can watch free for a limited time here.
Your email popup makes it impossible to read your blog. It never goes away and has no way to close it I find.
