If you're looking for a fabric printer for at home..the Brother Printmoda is a really good option.

It's easy to set up! Read on as we go step by step through the Printmoda fabric printer and software setup!

The Printmoda is both a fabric and paper printer so while it's larger than most home office printer it pulls double duty. You'll want to make sure you have a desktop that is large enough for the 18.8" x 22.7" x 15.2" printer.  (Also it's 48 pounds!)

Installing the Ink in Brother PrintaModa

The ink installation is super simple. Once you've got your printer plugged in and powered on (you'll find the power button right on the front), open the ink compartment on the right front side.

You'll receive four ink cartridges, each in its own plastic package. Give each one a good shake before installing. The printer makes it really easy to know where each cartridge goes, with clearly marked spots for each one.

Once you've got all four cartridges in place, the printer needs about three minutes to initialize the ink.

While that process is going you can follow the steps on the touch screen to guide you through setting the date and time and connecting to your Wi-Fi network. Everything is super intuitive, with clear instructions right on the screen.

How to Load Paper in the PrintModa Printer

Unlike most printers, the Brother Print Moda requires you to put the paper in sideways. If you're using standard 8½ x 11 paper, the 11-inch side should face you. This threw me off at first, but once you get it right, the gray guides will slide in perfectly to hold everything in place.

After you've got your paper loaded, the printer will run a test to make sure everything's printing correctly.

How to Load the Fabric Roll in PrintModa

The bottom tray (Tray 2) is for both the cotton fabric roll and paper.  There's a gray switch or flap that tells the printer whether you're using paper or fabric.

If you're using fabric, you'll load the roll from the front, kind of like how toilet paper comes from underneath the roll and the gray flap needs to be flipped to "fabric mode."

I have a video you can watch here on the Printmoda Fabric Printer set up that should help you too.

How to Install Brother PrintModa Fabric Drivers and Utility

The final step is installing the printer software, and this is crucial for getting all the special features working.

Head to the Brother website and look for the "Full Software Package" for your computer type (whether you're using Mac or Windows). This package includes everything you need - the drivers, firmware, and utility software. Once you download and install it, you'll have access to all the printer's special features when you go to print something.

When everything's set up correctly, you'll see special printing options when you go to print something. These include choices for different paper types and roll options. If you're not seeing these choices, that's usually a sign that you need to reinstall the drivers so repeat the step above again.
