Wanna know the trick that will make it easier than ever to weed HTV?
If you want your heat transfer vinyl designs to weed like butter this is a game-changer.
Before you even start cutting your HTV design, turn on your heat press to warm up. If you have a slide out heat press or swing away heat press, like I do, make sure the top platen is under/pushed in so it's getting the radiant heat from the top platen.
Once the HTV is finished cutting - DO NOT remove it from your cutting machine. Instead grab your weeding tool and weed out a small area like the inside of a letter. This just ensures you got a good cut. If you didn't you can send it through for another pass.
When you confirm, the HTV is cut through, unload it.
Now take the sheet of cut HTV (if it's on a cutting mat you can leave it on there) and place it on the bottom platen of your heat press.
This is where you're going to weed away the excess. The warm heat press ever so slightly warms up the HTV making it super easy to pull off the carrier sheet, but at the same time not curling or removing the cut design.
This is really helpful when you have a HTV that has a high tack carrier sheet like glitter HTV.
This design I'm working with, from So Fontsy's Amazing Crafters Bundle, has some really small and thin areas.
With how easy it is to weed the vinyl, I'm not yanking or pulling and accidentally pulling up the cut transfer in the meantime.
Give it a try - you'll be shocked at how much easier it is to weed vinyl while it's on your warm heat press!
