It's easy to design a shaped card in Silhouette Studio with a few design tricks.
While I would not consider this a first Silhouette project, it's definitely beginner friendly. Read on for the step by step on how to design shaped cards.
Start by opening or creating your design in a Silhouette Studio design area. I used one of my favorite font duos, Hello September, to create this Merry Christmas design. You can grab the fonts as a duo here either by themselves or part of the larger Font Bundle.
I thought it would made an adorable print and cut shaped card.
To create the shaped card select the entire design and open the Offset panel.
Increase the offset distance so you get a pretty good size margin.
When you click Apply for the Offset any overlapping lines will auto-weld.
Now select the offset only > Replicate Panel > Mirror Up.
This will place a second copy of your offset above the original.
Select the top one and use your keyboard arrow keys to just tab down a few so the top and bottom are slightly overlapping.
Select both offsets > right click > Weld. If the original design disappears it's because you had it selected as well (so undo and just select the offset cut lines).
Use the Draw a Line tool to draw a straight line and place it directly in the middle of the offsets. Change the line style to perforated so you can easily fold the card down the center once it's printed and cut.
The other option is to create a score line which can be done with the Autoblade or any Silhouette blade (a special scoring tool is not needed). You can check out this video on how to score with the Silhouette CAMEO Autoblade.
