If Silhouette Studio is running slow or crashing there are a handful of reasons why.
There are also four things to check right away to try to improve the speed and stop the crashing from continuing to happen. Read on for what to do if Silhouette Studio software is slow or crashing.
Excessive data in the form of extra work areas, extra cut lines, and patterns can cause Silhouette Studio to run really slow.
If you have extra elements in your work area, including traced images, delete them to help reduce the amount of data your software is trying to process. For more details check out this tutorial on how to speed up Silhouette Studio.
The second big reason your software could be running slow is it's hung up on processing. This happens specifically when importing large files. Sublimation or printing files are notorious for this.
Not only are these files often high resolution, they are often full color AND the biggest offenders: designs with distressing.
The reason distressed designs cause big issues is because every distressed area gets it's own cut line - create a huge amount of data.
Turning off those cut lines will instantly and significantly help speed up the processing.
Another thing that will slow down your Silhouette software is if your computer does not meet - or just barely meets - the minimum requirements to run Silhouette Studio. Not having enough memory or RAM will cause Silhouette Studio to lag, crash or run slowly.
Finally if you continue to experience issues with slowness and crashing and you've done or checked all of the above recommendations, then I would suggest installing a new version of Silhouette Studio.
If you are using a Silhouette CAMEO 4 or older machine, I would suggest V4.3.370. If you are using a CAMEO 5 V4.5.770 has been working ok for me.
