If you're considering getting a transfer printer for cutless, weedless transfers you have a few choices: a white toner printer or a direct to film printer.
I have both...and while white toner transfer printers don't get nearly as much recognition, don't sleep on them because they can do a lot more than what you probably realize AND there's no maintenance. Two HUGE advantages over DTF printing.
A recent price drop on material means white toner transfers are even cheaper to print!
My Uninet white toner printer is one of the most versatile printers in my office with the ability to print white on everything from dark to clear paper (and stickers), create transfers for any color shirt, print sublimation transfers, print vinyl decals, transfers for hard goods and even create foil transfers! Uninet likes to say that for $3995 you can get a business in a box...and given all you can do with it with varying combination of toners and materials, I agree.
And the best part..I love the iColor 560 so much I've partnered with Uninet and Swing Design to give one away!
Read on to learn 5 ways to use an iColor 560 that no body is talking about...plus details on how to enter to win one!
Hard Surface Transfers for Any Color Surface!
Can't sublimate on a mug because it's not white? No problem! The iColor 560 White Toner printer can print on hard surface material with a white layer on the back of the transfer.
Oh..and no special mugs needed!
Print White Toner on Black Paper..and then Add Foil!
The iColor 560 comes with five toner cartridges: white + CMYK. One of the unique features about it, over it's competitors is the ability to switch the order of the toners allowing you to both over print and underprint white.
If you want to print white on black paper you simply move the white toner to a different position.
If you want to go one step further, you can add foil by simply printing black. Heat activated foil sticks to the black toner only.
These menus I made a few years ago use a combination of both techniques.
Print White on Clear Sticker Material
Is there really any limit to this White Toner Printer? If there is, I've yet to find it. I put a sheet of clear sticker paper into the iColor 560 and printed white stickers that were then cut with my Silhouette CAMEO.
I don't own another printer that can do this!
You Can Print Florescent .. and Sublimation
The iColor 560 comes with the standard color toner cartridges, but one of the biggest benefits is the ability to easily swap them out - for florescent toners or even sublimation toners.
Because toner is powder and not liquid ink it doesn't get stick "in the lines". The maintenance is super low, the toner cartridges last forever, and there's no need to do anything before swapping the toners.
You simply pop them out and put in new ones and this can be done as often as you'd like! The samples above are printed with the florescent toners and the image below was a transfer printed with sublimation toners.
Just like adding foil to paper, you can also make foil transfers for shirts with materials like Presto paper. And because you're printing and not cutting you can get extremely small and fine details using a white toner printer.
For this example, I printed black toner on Presto paper. When applied to the garment, only the areas of black toner are left behind creating the foil transfer.
Now for the good stuff...we're GIVING away an iColor 560 White Toner printer to one lucky winner. This is really an unprecedented giveaway open to US residents. It's one of the the biggest single prizes I've ever given away on Silhouette School Blog and I'm really excited for you to have this chance!
You can jump into White Toner printing with an iColor 560 for under $4k including the standard toners. But as you saw there's SO much you can do with this one compact printer...things like the sublimation, florescent and metallic toner kits can be added on later at any time.
