Before making your own vinyl ornaments, be sure to check out our best tips for how to apply vinyl to round glass or plastic ornaments. You'll thank us later!
Following these tips will help to avoid wrinkled vinyl which can happen when the vinyl is placed on a round surface.
Pick the Right Design
Designs where the elements are all separate are great for round ornament because you can apply each piece separately. Usually the individual pieces are smaller than the whole and smaller pieces have to go around less of a curve.
These snowman faces are the perfect design choice for vinyl on round ornaments because each element (eyes, nose, mouth etc.) is separate from each other.
You can grab these exact designs in the October 2022 SVG and Font Bundle at So Fontsy.
Applying Vinyl to Round Ornaments
Clean the ornaments with rubbing alcohol before applying vinyl and set the round ornament on a towel to keep it from rolling around.
Applying the vinyl pieces one by one is much, much easier than trying to put the design all on at once like a layered vinyl decal.
How to Use Transfer Tape to Apply Vinyl to Round Ornaments
Don't be afraid to cut vinyl pieces, cut out of the same color apart to make them easier to apply.
After transferring the vinyl to the transfer tape, make small slits in the transfer tape with scissors to allow the transfer tape to bend around the ornament. Just be sure not to cut completely across the transfer tape.
Gently fold the transfer tape in the middle to first apply the middle of the design first. Then fold one side down and then the other. Burnish the vinyl from the middle out.
Remove the transfer tape and repeat with the remaining parts of the design.
If you're using clear ornaments and you want to paint the inside of the ornaments prior to applying the vinyl, check out this blog post over on the So Fontsy blog on How to Paint Inside An Ornament.
And if you want to make these snowman face ornaments yourself, grab these designs in the October 2022 SVG and Font Bundle over at So Fontsy.
