When you've found the perfect SVG design for your project, but you need to change the SVG size, it's easy to do in Silhouette Studio.
You might need to modify an SVG file for any number of reasons including changing the SVG color or it's layout. This tutorial will show you how to change SVG size and layout so the design perfectly fits.
In this example we're working with this Cookie Tray Dear Santa SVG design from So Fontsy's Farmhouse Christmas Font and Design Bundle.
However, what if you have a square cookie tray that you want to apply this design to, like the 12 x 12-inch wooden tray pictured below.
You can't just stretch the rectangular design to fit the square project without it looking distorted.
Instead, you'll need to change the SVG size and layout by separating the design and moving the pieces.
To do this, right-click the image in Silhouette Studio and select Release Compound Path.
This will separate each individual shape of the design into a clickable/editable element. Don't worry if the design takes on a solid fill...that's not unexpected.
Reassemble the shapes by making each "grouping" of designs a compound path. For example, select every part of the "Dear Santa" part of the design and clicking "Make Compound Path."
Repeat these steps and make a single compound path for each of the other design groups.
Now you are free to move and re-size each group independently, changing the overall size of the larger SVG design to fit your project.
For a Dear Santa tray, it's always a good idea to customize it by adding a name! We used the Holiday Wishes font (also found in the Farmhouse Christmas Font and Design Bundle).
The final step is to cut the vinyl or stencil to make a Santa cookie plate or tray! To see how to do this project, check out the How to Create a Santa Cookie Tray blog post over at the So Fontsy blog.
Grab this design (and the font too!) in the Farmhouse Christmas Font and Design Bundle at So Fontsy.
