How to Re-Size Tumbler Wrap Templates for Sublimation on Glass Cans

Wrap template designs are some of the greatest designs for sublimation because they are pre-formatted to fit a specific size of mug or tumbler, so you can easily just print and press.

But what if you want to change the size of a sublimation tumbler template to put it onto a different size mug or tumbler - such as the those popular glass cans? In this post, we'll share one way you can resize sublimation templates for glass cans and other size tumblers and mugs in Silhouette Studio.

Open Silhouette Studio and open the sublimation wrap template by going to File > Merge.

The design we're using was created for a straight 20 oz. tall and skinny glass tumbler that we want to sublimate onto a 16 oz. glass can

You'll find this wrap design in the Coffee Mug and Tumbler Design and Template Bundle at So Fontsy.

Use the Draw a Rectangle tool to match the dimensions of your glass can. This sublimation glass can measures 9.6 inches wide and 4.2 inches tall so that's the dimension of the rectangle we need to draw.

This design is the perfect example of a wrap design that is very well suited to being resized because there are lots of small horizontal spaces between the lines of the pattern.

Place the rectangle over the design and then resize the original tumbler template to fit within the width of the desired glass can wrap size (9.6 inches) by dragging in one corner of the of the template design.

With the width set, use the arrow keys on your keyboard to slowly nudge the template wrap (but not the rectangle) up and down so the pattern fits within the height of the rectangle.

This means the bottom of the template may not be lined up at the bottom of the rectangle..but you have the rectangle positioned in a natural break on the pattern.

Open the Modify panel. Select both the rectangle and the design and clip Crop.

Any parts of the template that are outside the rectangle will now be cropped out, leaving behind just what you wanted for your smaller glass can wrap.

Note: The different design elements that remain may all become separated after cropping, so you can just select everything and group them all back together.

Now you're ready to print your sublimation can wrap on your sublimation printer.
