I get questions all the time about the Silhouette CAMEO 4 max Print and Cut size.

This is a sponsored post, but all opinions are my own

The answer really depends on your printer! In this tutorial I'll show you how to get the max print and cut area when using your Silhouette CAMEO 4 whether you have a standard 8.5" x 11" printer or a wide format printer.
The key to getting the max Silhouette print and cut size is moving the registration marks from their default location. But how much you can move them depends on your printer and the size of the paper or sticker paper you are using.

First I'll show you how to get the largest print and cut area on a standard 8.5" x 11" printer and then we'll discuss wide format printers where you can use 11" wide paper or sticker paper and in some cases paper that's longer than 12".  Doing this lets you take advantage of some of Online Labels' largest sticker sheets - which I love!

No matter what printer or material size you are using you will need to move the registration marks to maximize the print and cut space.

How to Move the Registration Marks for Silhouette Print and Cut

Open Silhouette Studio to a blank work area.

From the Page Setup Panel select the material size as "Letter".  Be sure the orientation is "portrait" style and the boxes for the print border and cut borders are both checked.

Move to the third tab of the Page Setup panel to access the registration mark settings. Click "On" to turn on the registration marks.

Expand the Advanced Options so you have access to the "Inset" controls.

By moving the Left, Top, and Right inset (and NEVER the Bottom) bars all the way to the left, you can maximize the safe print and cut area.  You'll notice after moving them they still remain within the safe print and cut area.

The reason you never move the bottom inset is it will partially fall below the safe print border which will give you a bad cut due to the registration mark not being fully printed.

Now you can go one step further to get even more print and cut space by adjusting the Length of the registration marks. Move the "Length" bar to the left slightly and you'll see the registration marks and the hashed areas shrink in size.

This is the Silhouette CAMEO 4 Print and Cut max size...when using standard 8.5" x 11" sticker paper or paper. If you make these adjustments when using the Online Labels printable glossy or printable matte sticker sheets, for example, you can most likely print EXTRA stickers!

How to Print and Cut on Legal Size Paper (8.5" x 14") with Silhouette CAMEO 4

If your printer can take Legal size 8.5" x 14" paper or sticker paper you can further maximize the print and cut area.

Follow the above steps.. and then makes these additional changes.

From the Silhouette Studio File Menu click Print Page Setup.

Select your printer and change the paper size to Legal.

From the Silhouette Studio Page Setup Panel - Design Area Setup tab, we need to adjust both the cutting mat size and the media size.

Change the cutting mat to "CAMEO 12 x 24 in".

Change the Media Size to "Printer"...now the media size matches the page size picked in the printer settings...which is 8.236 x 13.7" You'll see that the print and cut area adjusts and there's more room for your print and cut.

This is the Silhouette CAMEO 4 Print and Cut max size when using 8.5" x 14" legal size paper or 8.5" x 14" sticker paper from Online Labels.  By the way, Online Labels offers 34 different material types in this size!!

Silhouette CAMEO 4 Print and Cut Max Size with Wide Format Printer

If you are lucky enough to have a wide format printer you can further maximize the print and cut area on the Silhouette CAMEO by taking advantage of almost all of the 12" wide cutting area on your cutting machine.

You would again follow the basic steps above to move the registration marks.

Then go to the Silhouette Studio File > Print Page Setup menu.

This time select your wide format printer.  I have a Canon iP8700 which can accommodate paper up to 12" wide. Since Online Labels wide format sticker sheets are 11 x 17" that is the paper size I select.

If the Silhouette Studio Page Setup settings don't automatically adjust be sure to change the Cutting Mat to 12 x 24" and the Media Size to "Printer" (which will match the paper size you selected in the previous step).

So the answer to the question of what is the max print and cut size on Silhouette CAMEO 4 is... ~144 square inches. BUT to take full advantage of that size, you must use a wide format printer and 11" x 17" material.

The Silhouette CAMEO 4 Print and Cut max size with standard 8.5" x 11" material is ~72.5 square inches when the registration mark adjustments described above are made.

  1. Will this work on a cameo 3 as well to maximize print settings?

  2. Would it make any sense to buy the "Cameo 4 Plus", instead of the plain Cameo 4. Pay an additional $100 for the additional 3 inches of "Print & Cut" area the Plus gives... FOR A NEW person to the MACHINE?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

    1. Hi there! This is really going to depend on your ultimate goals and budget. If you are just looking for print and cut, you would also need a printer in which you can print the additional width.

  3. Hello, did I understand that right that the print and cut size on the Cameo 4 pro is possible in A3 - 297 x 420 mm - 11.7 x 16.5 in? This is really important for me as I would use it mostly for that and my prints are that size. Many thanks for your advice, Gabriela

    1. Hey there! You can really use any paper you like. I'd probably go with a heavier paper or light cardstock to make peeling it off eaiser!
