When it comes to designing in Silhouette Studio, we're all about speed and efficiency!
Open the File (that is really, really big!)
Start a new Design area in Silhouette Studio. Then, click File > Open. Navigate to the file and open it.
This won't happen with all design files, and you really wouldn't know that the file opens so big until you actually open it.
But, it happens often enough, especially with photo files or PNGs, so if you find that it's slowing down your workflow to zoom out, zoom out, zoom out, zoom out ... resize ... zoom in, zoom in, zoom in - try this Silhouette Studio trick instead!
Resize Large Files in Silhouette Studio
After opening the very large file, immediately select it. Then click the lock icon along the Quick Access Tool Menu
Change the object's height or weight. With the lock icon on, this will maintain the object's aspect ratio so when you make a change to either the height or length, the other will adjust accordingly (after you press enter).
Press Enter on your keyboard. The object is now resized much smaller than it opened, but it looks as if it has disappeared from our workspace (it hasn't). It's just positioned somewhere off the mat and out of view.
Center to Page
Immediately after clicking Enter to resize the design, go straight to the Center to Page button in the top menu and click on it.
The design then moves within your view to the center of the mat.
Then, you can then easily click and drag it anywhere on your mat! No more zooming out, zooming in. This is fast and easy!
To add more designs to this same work area, go to File > Merge. Find the file you want to open. If this file also opens very, very large.
Repeat the steps above to quickly resize the design.
Continue until you have all the designs you need and arrange them however you want.

This is exactly the help I needed! Never had this problem until a couple weeks ago.
ReplyDeleteAwesome...thanks!
ReplyDeleteThis happens when I merge SVGs, as well. Then, as soon as I click anywhere, it shirks & does not keep the size proportion! Like the previous comments, this just started a few weeks ago.
ReplyDeleteIf you're really having trouble, you could go back to a legacy version of Silhouette Studio.
DeleteThank you so much
