Whether you're working on Silhouette CAMEO 4 print and cut project or an older Silhouette machine, you can enlarge the size of the print and cut area.
To change the print and cut size area you need to adjust a few settings and also be aware of what NOT to change.
My suggestion would be to start by setting up the Silhouette page set up with all default settings. Follow these steps to get the page setup correctly.
Once you have the print and cut page set up you can move on to make some adjustments to enlarge the Silhouette print and cut size.
Click the Registration Marks tab on the Page Setup panel to open the Registration Marks tab.
There are two main ways to enlarge the print and cut area. You can use one or the other or both in combination.
- Adjusting the Dimensions will make the hashed area smaller and thus enlarging the print and cut area.
- While Moving the Insets will move the location of the registration marks - also enlarging the print and cut area.
Let's actually start by adjusting the location of the registration marks. I prefer this option because it keeps the size and thickness of the registration marks the same which makes it easier for the machine to find them.
How to Enlarge the Silhouette Print and Cut Area by Moving the Registration Marks
Expand the Advanced Options which will reveal the four slider bars for the insets.
My rule of thumb is NEVER move the bottom inset as you risk moving it out of the printable area..and having only half of the mark print. All others can have their slider bar moved to the far left.
With this adjustment the print and cut size area has gone from what was the gray area to now the teal area.
It may not seem like a lot but it can sometimes mean the difference of an additional row of stickers or
larger printable vinyl decal.
How to Enlarge the Silhouette Print and Cut Area by Reducing the Size of the Registration Marks
The second option, which again you can do as an alternative or in addition to moving the marks, is to change the size of the actual marks.
Changing the size of the registration marks makes the hashed area smaller and therefore the printable area larger.
To change the size of the registration marks slide the Length bar to the left. In addition, move the Thickness slider bar to the right. With these adjustments the print and cut size area has now expanded to the pink shaded area.
The danger you have here is how small the top right and bottom left mark are now - which is why it's so important that you increase the thickness when you reduce the length.
By making these changes in combination with moving the registration marks, you've now created a print and cut space that's the size of the pink area.
