If you are attempting to upgrade your Silhouette Studio software by entering a license key, but you're getting an "Incompatible Error", it's usually a pretty quick fix.
The reason for the error is typically because you are attempting to enter a license key for a software upgrade out of order..here's how to fix this.
There are three Silhouette Studio upgrades: Designer Edition, Designer Edition Plus, and Business Edition.
You can upgrade to any of the upgrade levels...or in steps. In other words, you could go from the free basic Silhouette Studio directly to Business Edition. In this option you'd have one license key and there's typically no problem or error.
You could also go from the free basic Silhouette Studio to Designer Edition (or Designer Edition Plus) then to Business Edition. In this option you would have two (or three) license keys...both need to be entered into Silhouette Studio's Help Menu in order.
Let's say you get a new computer and install Silhouette Studio (you're installing the FREE basic version when you download from the Silhouette America website). Now you need to activate your software upgrade again by entering the license keys.
If you attempt to enter the Designer to Business upgrade license key, you will get the incompatible license error.
This is because you are not on Designer Edition right now...you're on the free version. You need to enter the free > Designer key first and then enter the Designer > Business key.
Likewise if you accidentally purchase the Designer > Business or Designer Edition Plus > Business License key and you attempt to enter it, but you are starting on the Free Basic Software, you will also get the Incompatible License error.

IVE LOST MY LIBRARY AND CANT GET IT TO SYNC. I WENT FROM DESIGNER TO BUSINESS. IVE STARTED IT OVER AND OVER STILL NOT WORKING.
ReplyDeleteI learned the idea of entering first one, then the next, then the next... but where do I find the license key for the free version to start with?
ReplyDeleteFree version is frre-you don't need any licence key for that. You're paying actually for the licence key.
DeleteI upgraded from Basic to Business from the Silhouette website and my Silhouette Studio is only recognizing Designer edition. Not sure how to fix it.
