This comes in handy if you get a new computer or have more than one computer where you use Silhouette Studio. This tutorial will show you how to install Silhouette Studio license keys and also how to install on another computer.
If this is the first time upgrading Silhouette Studio to Designer Edition (or DE+ or Business Edition) you can follow these steps to activate the license key.
When you purchase the license key you'll get a 16 digit number. If you purchased from a reseller, like Swing Design, the number will be emailed instantly by email.
Before activating the upgrade, you need to make sure you have Silhouette Studio already installed on your computer. If you haven't done that yet, follow this tutorial.
Launch Silhouette Studio and go to the Help menu. Click "Apply Upgrade Edition."
You'll be prompted to log into your Silhouette America account.
In the pop up box, enter the 16 digit license key and click "Submit."
That's it! The upgraded features of Silhouette Studio will automatically be unlocked with your upgrade.
How to Install Silhouette Studio Designer Edition On a Second Computer
Start off by finding your license keys. You don't need to remember or even write down your 16 digit license keys for Silhouette Studio. They are all stored in your Silhouette America account.
If you upgraded to Silhouette Studio Business Edition (or DE+) in multiple steps you will need all of your license keys for this process. For example if you went from Silhouette Studio basic to Designer Edition then later upgraded again from Designer Edition to Business Edition you'll have two license keys, like I do.
Open Silhouette Studio on your new computer. Go to the Help Menu.
Click Upgrade Silhouette Studio.
Enter your account email and password.
Next enter 16 digit license key. If you only have one license key enter it. If you are like me and upgraded in steps, enter the lowest-upgrade key now.
Click Submit.
The license will be activated. Click Next.
After clicking Next you'll get to the Activation successful screen. You'll notice the Silhouette Studio software has now changed over to the upgraded version of the software - in this case, that's Designer Edition.
If you upgraded in steps you will now need to repeat the process - entering the next upgrade level license key. For me I went from Designer Edition to Business Edition so now I need to enter that 16 digit license key for Business Edition.
Wondering which software features are included in each version of Silhouette Studio upgrades? We have a side by side comparison chart of Silhouette Studio Designer Edition, Designer Edition Plus and Business Edition here.

Why doesn't your ability to install on another computer be allowed after you remove it from a previous computer. We get 3 computers to install it on. If you install it on a computer and it doesn't work and you uninstall it you don't get that license back. WHY?
ReplyDeleteI've tried and keeps on saying license key already in use.
ReplyDeleteYou can login to your account on Silhouette America and deactivate old computers so that you can use it again.
Deletehow do I remove the other computers? I do not see the option
ReplyDeleteOn the old computers, you can go into the help menu and instead of clicking "upgrade Silhouette Studio" click "deactivate license key" to free up other installs.
Deletewhat if you dont have the old computer anymore to deactivate the license key?
