Vinyl coffee mug designs end up taking a lot of handling and use, so you want to pick a vinyl that's affordable and has a strong adhesive.

Most Affordable Vinyl with Strong Adhesive

The most affordable vinyl with a permanent adhesive is Oracal 651.  Oracal 651 is permanent adhesive vinyl that can easily be cut and weeded with Silhouette. It also comes in a wide range of colors at an affordable price.

You can expect to pay on average .60 per 12x12 sheet of Oracal 651 - but can definitely find deals on Oracal 651vinyl rolls and bundle packs of vinyl.

651 is great for mugs because of it's permanent adhesive strength - however keep in mind it's not considered dishwasher or microwave safe so you'll want to hand wash.

After applying 651 vinyl to a mug be sure to let it cure (sit) for about 48 hours before washing. This just lets the adhesive come to full strength.

Strongest Adhesive and Thin to Avoid Nicks

Oracal 751 is also ideal for coffee mug decals because of its thickness and adhesive strength. Oracal 751 has an even stronger adhesive than 651, but that comes with a slightly higher price tag.

The higher price of Oracal 751 sheets is closer to $1 per 12x12 sheet may be worth it though given the stronger adhesive strength and thinner material. Thinner vinyl means it's not raised as much off the mug making it less likely to be nicked and start peeling. Again, you can find Oracal 751 roll bundles for less per square inch if you're interested in higher volume.

While the manufacturer won't call Oracal 751 dishwasher safe I've had very good luck with 751 lasting through repeated dishwasher cycles.  So....wash in the top rack at your own risk. And remember...let 751 cure for 72 hours before using or washing your coffee mug!

Heat Transfer Vinyl for Coffee Mugs

You can also put HTV on coffee mugs using a mug press!

Some crafters prefer heat transfer vinyl on coffee mugs because it can be easier to cut and weed.  It's really a personal preference. Just remember, if you put HTV on coffee mugs wait at least 48 hours before washing.

And if you're looking for a bunch of fun coffee mug designs, be sure to check out the Coffee Mug SVG Bundle from our sister site So Fontsy - which is back for 1 DAY ONLY!
