AlbaChem Cutting Mat Adhesive Spray Review: How to Re-Stick a Silhouette Cutting Mats

I've always been of the mindset that it's better to replace Silhouette cutting mats than to re-stick them.

But since I know not all of you agree, I put the AlbaChem Eco-Mist Adhesive Cutting Mat spray to the test on an old Silhouette cutting mat.

The first thing you want to do is remove as much grime, buildup, and "stuff" from your cutting mat. I placed mine in the utility sink with warm soapy water and used a brush to gently scrub it making sure to remove any bits of paper, vinyl, and as much gunk as possible.

After you're done washing the mat, you want to make sure to dry it really well.

Once the mat is dry, use wide painters tape to tape down all four side of the mat completely covering the margins of the mat. You do not want to get any adhesive on the ungridded areas of the mat that includes the sides and top and bottom.

If the sides of the mat get adhesive on them it will transfer to the Silhouette CAMEO rollers while the mat rolls back and forth during cutting - making the rollers sticky.

Finally spray your mat with a light, even coat of AlbaChem cutting mat spray

This is easier said than done since the mat is clear and the spray is clear.  That makes it a challenge to see where you've already sprayed and to make sure you're 1) not missing any spots and 2) not covering any spots with too much adhesive.

Let the adhesive dry and then remove the tape from around the edges. I would suggest you use a clean shirt to blot the mat to remove any overly sticky areas.

You can now use your Silhouette cut mat again.

This cutting mat had almost no stick left to it at all. Even the lightest material would not stick to it. The spray did a great job of re-sticking the cutting mat. However, I did have a few spots where I must have sprayed too much and you can see that the liner of the vinyl stuck.
