When this happens, the dried paint can end up with blocking bits of the screen...and no amount of soap, water and scrubbing will get it off. I was on a mission NOT to fully replace my screen and instead salvage it.
I found this SpeedBall Screen Cleaner on Amazon and figured it was worth a try. They make the Speedball paint and the screens...if anyone should know how to make a product that effectively cleans dried off paint from their screens - it's Speedball.
...but it's been preventing me from screen printing with it because I could not get an even print since parts of the screen were filled with paint.
Following the directions on the bottle of screen cleaner, I used a paint brush to cover the areas of dried paint on both sides of the screen.
I then used a bristle brush to scrub the screen on both the front and back side.
The paint was not coming off at this point...but this was only about half way through the process so I kept holding out hope.
I then added another layer of the solution on both the front and back and let the screen sit in my utility sink for 5 minutes.
After 5 minutes I sprayed hot water while scrubbing and the paint easily disappeared with almost no effort.
My screen printing screen looks brand new again and none of the little holes are blocked by dried paint!
Gotta love it when a product works like it says it will! If you need to clean up your screen grab a bottle of the Speedball Speed Cleaner!
