A zip file is simply a way for multiple files to be compressed and delivered in one single folder.
If you try to open a zip file in Silhouette Studio though, you'll get an error. That's because before the contents of a zip file can be opened in the Silhouette Studio software, the zip folder itself needs to be unzipped.
Let's take a look at how easy this is.
Let's say you purchase the Lille Juniper Bundle from So Fontsy. The bundle includes about 50 different personal and commercial use designs. It's a stunner, huh? (Wanna grab it? I arranged an extra coupon for you guys - details are below)
Downloading Zip Files onto Your Computer
When you download this SVG/PNG bundle to your computer, you have the option to download all the files individually or you can download the Quick Zip file which contains all of the SVG designs in one zip folder. How to UnZip Zip Folders
Once you have the zip or zip folders on your computer you need to unzip it.On a MAC you can do this by simply double clicking or right clicking > Open With > Archive Utility. On a PC you can unzip a zip folder by clicking on the folder then selecting "Extract All."
You'll notice when the folder is unzipped it, you now have a regular folder icon.
When the file folder is expanded you'll see all the design files inside. In this case we have all of the .SVG files.
How to Bulk Import SVG or PNG Files into Silhouette Studio
Now you can bulk import your files into Silhouette Studio by selecting ONLY the files, not the folder itself.Start by opening up Silhouette Studio and go to your Library. Locate the folder where you want to store the designs.
With the window open on part of the screen and Silhouette Studio Library also open, hold down Shift while you select the .SVG and/or .PNG files to import. Remember, you'll need Silhouette Designer Edition to open in SVG files in Silhouette Studio. PNG files will open with the basic version of Studio, but will need to be traced.
Now drag and drop the files right into the Silhouette Studio library folder.
It will take the software a few seconds to process and then you'll find all of your designs in your folder. You'll notice that the number next to the folder will now reflect the same number you imported.
Wasn't that easy peesy!!
Alright now that you know how to bulk import you are gonna want to grab the gorgeous collection of Lille Juniper designs from our sister site So Fontsy. The bundle of 48 commercial use SVG and PNG designs is already a steal at $16.99, but I got you guys a coupon for an EXTRA 15% off until 6/20 at 11:59pm EST. The bundle sticks around until 7/23!

Melissa, I've done all of that, but when I go to use the SVG, it shows on the screen, but when I go to print it's grayed out and only prints the box I put around the image. I am so frustrated I could scream. Wait, I already did that. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWithout seeing it, it's hard to know what's going on. Can you please email and we'll take a look
DeleteHow do I download SVG files on a PC? I keep unzipping the files but nothing will let me move them to the studio.
ReplyDeleteHi Sarah! You will need Designer Edition or above to move the unzipped SVGs to Silhouette Studio.
DeleteThanks for this. Is it possible to take a bunch of png files that are in a folder and open them all onto one Studio file? (I'm not sure if I am phrasing it right, but I think you will understand what I mean!) Thanks!!
ReplyDeleteHey there! What I would do is select the PNGs you'd like in one work space from the folder on your computer then drag directly into the workspace instead of dragging into the library.
