How to Save as SVG in Silhouette Studio (and JPEG and PDF too)

It's now possible to export as an SVG directly from Silhouette Studio.

In order to save as an SVG, JPEG, or PDF from Silhouette Studio, you must have both Silhouette Studio 4.1 or higher and Business Edition.

This means designs you create or those that are created with design elements from sources other than the Silhouette Design Store can be saved in any of the three popular file types.

Saving as SVG, JPEG or PDF is ideal for those who need or want to open their designs in other software programs or for Silhouette business owners who sell their designs - since files can't be sold in the .Studio format.

The first thing you want to do is create your design or text based shape.

Remember with fonts you want to convert to path before exporting them - regardless of the file type. If you don't convert fonts to path, when someone else opens the file you created, if they don't have that font installed on their computer, the font style will change.  To convert to path, select the text designs > right click > convert to path.

How to Save as SVG from Silhouette Studio

Alright now you're ready to export as JPEG, PDF, or SVG from Silhouette Studio.  You have two options:

Method 1: Save As - This saves everything in the work area to the file to the file type you select. So for this example, both of the designs that I created in this work space will be saved to the same file.

With the design in the work space go to the File Menu and pick Save As > Save to Hard Drive.

When the box pops up, change the File Type to "SVG" (or PDF or JPEG if you prefer), then click Save.  This will save anything in the work area as the SVG.

Method 2: Save Selection - This method saves ONLY what is selected in the current work area

Let's say you have multiple designs in the work space, like I do in this example. If you ONLY want a specific part of the work area saved as an SVG, select that area only.

Go to the File Menu  >  Click Save Selection > Save to Hard Drive.

When the box pops up, change the File Type to SVG, JPEG, or PDF and click Ok. This will only save the selected elements to the SVG file.

This saves only the selected element in the exported file. It's perfect if you want to create a file of an entire set and also save each element in the set as its own file as well!
