The ways I find to use my Silhouette never fail to impress me. Did you
catch that? I sometimes impress myself...like that time when I ran out
of both gift wrap (or really I only had newborn-appropriate paper) and
time and decided I'd wrap a gift with a roll of brown paper. Well, that's kinda,
sorta, most definitely booooooring.
I mean it was...until I added some washi tape, a ribbon and
vinyl!! The vinyl is what makes it, really? I wrapped this gift for my
secret (blogging) sister to give to her during the blogging conference,
SNAP, that I attended in April in Salt Lake City.
I actually traced the Snap logo (a jpeg image) and then used MrMoustache font to type out Happy and Sister! in Silhouette Studio. Here's a tutorial on how to use the font with Silhouette Studio if you're trying to access all the extras.
Then it was just a matter of sizing the design to fit on the top of the gift. I cut it on pink 651/permanent/outdoor vinyl (you could use 631 too). After the design was weeded, it's time to transfer.
To prevent the transfer tape or paper from ripping the paper where you will eventually apply the vinyl, de-sticky the tape a little before placing it down to pick up the vinyl. Just blot it on a clean cotton shirt or sheet. Then you can simply transfer it directly onto the brown kraft "wrapping paper" using the clear transfer tape. Burnish the vinyl and then carefully peel up the transfer tape.
Simple solutions. Big impact. Wam Bam Thank you Ma'am this one was done in about 5 minutes...and I didn't even have to run (back) to Target for more gift wrap.
Now if you're wondering what was inside this beautiful custom gift wrapped package, you're in luck.
I created this set of mason jar mugs for my blogging friend who was lives in "Pear Country." I'll be sharing the trick to getting curved text around multiple images on the blog soon.
