This tutorial will walk you through how to re-activate Silhouette Studio Designer Edition. The same steps can be used to activate or move Business Edition and Designer Edition Plus to a new computer as well.
Remember, Silhouette Studio Designer Edition, DE+ and Business Edition are a one time purchased upgrade so once you buy it and activate the key, you have it for life.
The same method for re-activating Silhouette Studio Designer Edition applies to activating it for the first time. And the same goes if you get a new computer and need to add Designer Edition or another software upgrade on there.
How to Find Your Silhouette Software Upgrade License Key
First you need to find your software upgrade license key. You'll find all of your 16 digital license keys for DE, DE+ and BE in your Silhouette America account.Go to the SilhouetteAmerica.com site and click "Sign In." Sign into your account.
From the My Account area scroll down.
If you purchased more than one upgrade - or you upgraded in steps you'll have more than one license key. This is important because both keys will need to be put in - in the order - to reactivate the your software.
You can see in my account I first upgraded to Designer Edition. Then I later upgraded from Designer Edition to Business Edition (a partial upgrade).
How to Re-Activate a Silhouette Studio Software Upgrade (DE, DE+, BE)
Keep your internet browser window open and open Silhouette Studio. You can see here mine is currently the standard software.
Click on the Help Menu along the top and select "Upgrade Silhouette Studio."
Remember, if you upgraded in steps - like I did - you'll first need to enter the license key for the lower upgrade. Once you hit 'Submit' Silhouette Studio will automatically upgrade to the Designer Edition.

ReplyDeleteIt always be yours but.... When I upgrade the studio and activate the DE again the studio goes back to the older version, somewhere in the 3.44 while the newer version is 3.69. Why??

ReplyDeleteThanks for this. I just had to do it, as DE had reverted to basic at some point. Unfortunately, it cost me an install to reapply the key. I now have only one installation left. Hope this doesn't happen two more times...

ReplyDeleteI wish I had known about this sooner. When this happened to me earlier this year, I didn't do the right search terms and couldn't work it out, so I immediately ordered another key and input that one. Lesson learned....

You should be able to add it again..if not, unfortunately you will have to call Silhouette America to re-set your account.

ReplyDeleteI used to be able to double click Studio files and SVG files. Can't do that now. Had to reload SS on my new hard drive. I have activated the Designer Plus edition. Now I get Invalid command line when I double click. In order to use the files, I have to bring them into the library. Can you help? Using version 3.6.57. Afraid to update to the latest version.

ReplyDeleteIf it's not allowing you to enter the code for that reason you'll need to contact Silhouette America's customer support so they can fix it from the backend.

ReplyDeleteDon't worry about de-activating it if your computer crashed. If you need another access on your license key Silhouette America's customer support should be able to reset it.

ReplyDeleteI bought the studio designer and it wont stay open. I've only had it for a few days. The software always freezes and the pop up has said everyday that the program is not responding. If this continues to happen, I would like my money back. I am trying to get a huge gymnastics project done and I am on a time limit. I can't afor to lose time continually having to restart the program.

Hi there! This would not come with the machine. You can use the basic edition for free, but if you'd like the additional features, you can purchase your own license key!
